Born from necessity - created with love

Känna was born almost two years ago while on a family holiday in SW France, over a glass of wine naturally. I know, I’ll start my own line of sensory-friendly children’s clothing I declared. This wasn’t totally out of nowhere. My daughter with sensory processing difficulties was finding it impossible to find clothing she was comfortable in. Every seam scratched, every fabric just felt wrong, and gathered waistbands, ribbed necklines and tight sleeves were just arrggghhh!
There were a few (and only a few worldwide) lovely sensory-friendly clothing brands on the market. But imagine having only the choice of a few items of clothing. There was nothing pretty at this point and nothing my daughter wanted to wear.
Well, I thought, how difficult can it be. We’ll make clothing that children want to wear, but make it sensory-friendly. We'll make a brand that's entirely sensory-friendly, but make it for everyone because we all like to feel comfortable. Well it turns out it’s extremely difficult. Add in our commitment to making our childrenswear sustainable and high quality, and we had a challenge on our hands for sure.
Through the process of bringing our launch range to market we’ve spoken to many many factories across the world. We’ve designed and redesigned. We’ve felt so many fabrics (seriously, is this one softer or this one?). We’ve sampled each garment countless times. We've agonised over every detail. My highly-sensitive daughter has been the toughest critic. Only the best has made the final cut.
We’re very proud of this first range of sensory-friendly t-shirts, long-sleeve tees, skirts and dresses. And when we say we've poured our heart into every stitch, we mean it!
We've got sensory-friendly leggings, long-sleeve dresses, cardigans and joggers coming in the Autumn.
We’d love to hear your stories. And we’d love to know what clothes you’d like to see from us. You can message us here hello@kanna.co.uk
The photo shows our first prototype - so comfy that it was a hit (exscuse the pun) from day one!
